FAQS
Your questions, answered
Yes. We regularly work with charities, village halls, sports clubs, churches, schools, and community organisations across Plymouth and the South West. If you’ve got a building with a roof and an energy bill, we can usually help.
Often, yes. Where we can, we offer community pricing for not-for-profit and community projects. The best way is to send us a few details and we’ll tell you what’s possible—no pressure.
We’ll check the basics first: roof size, direction, shading, and the condition of the roof. If it looks good, we’ll do a proper site survey to confirm layout, access, and electrics before anything is final.
Yes. We can provide the practical info funders and trustees usually want—system specs, expected generation, basic savings assumptions, and install timelines. We keep it clear and easy to share.
It depends on the building and how it’s used. Some installs can be zero-rated for VAT under the UK “energy-saving materials” rules (currently set up as a temporary zero rate running to 31 March 2027, with reduced VAT rules after that). We’ll explain what applies to your project and what we need from you.
Yes. We don’t disappear. We’ll show you how everything works, help you understand the monitoring, and stay available if you ever have questions. If there’s an issue, we want it sorted quickly and properly.
Yes. We can help you track generation and export data, and give you simple numbers you can use for reporting—great for grant outcomes, trustees, and “impact” updates.
Most rooftop solar installs don’t need planning permission, but there are exceptions (listed buildings, conservation areas, certain roof types). We’ll flag this early and help you work out the right route.
Fast. We can usually give an initial estimate quickly, then tighten it up after we’ve checked roof details and usage. If it’s a larger project, we’ll still keep it simple and clear—just with a few extra steps.
Your address, a recent electricity bill (or annual kWh), and a quick idea of how the building is used (daytime, evenings, weekends). If you have roof photos, even better—but not required.
Potentially, yes. If you export unused electricity back to the grid, you may be able to get paid via a Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) export tariff. SEG rules are set out in legislation and reference MCS (or equivalent) standards. We’ll make sure you have the paperwork you need.
We keep disruption low. Most of the work is outside on the roof, and we’ll plan around opening hours or sensitive days where needed. We’re tidy, organised, and we don’t leave your site looking like a building site.
For many community buildings, installation is typically a short on-site job once everything is approved and scheduled. Larger roofs or more complex electrical setups can take longer. We’ll give you a clear timeline before we start.
Yes. If your usage pattern suits it, battery storage can help you use more of what you generate on-site, especially for evening use. We’ll be honest about whether it makes sense for your building.
