SunPower solar panels in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset
Premium panels. A sensible price.
Having installed solar panel systems right across the South-West for many years, we recommend SunPower Performance 7 panels for their balance of efficiency, durability and value.
SunPower Performance 7
There are two formats to choose from:
- 515W measuring 1.996 metres high, and
- 460W with a height of 1.79 metres.
That difference in size and power output allows us to design a system around your roof dimensions and the electricity you use.
For homeowners who want higher efficiency and longer warranty cover, we also offer the SunPower M Class 495W panel.
Our team will explain the differences, check what fits and provide a clear, fixed-price quote. Solar-only installations start at just £4,500, subject to survey.

Our recommendation
Why we recommend SunPower Performance 7
You don’t need to choose the most expensive panel to get an excellent solar system.
Performance 7 costs less than M Class while offering highly efficient cells, glass-glass construction, and long warranty cover.
For many homes, it’s the sensible choice.
- Efficient use of your roof
- Performance 7 uses N-type TOPCon cells, with panel efficiency of 22.7% for the 460W model and 22.8% for the 515W model.
We compare the two formats against your roof dimensions. The aim is to find the most suitable layout and total system capacity, rather than simply choose the panel with the largest wattage. - Strong construction and a black finish
- Both formats use glass on the front and rear, a black aluminium frame and a shingled-cell design that keeps visible metalwork to a minimum.
The result is a panel designed for long-term use, with a finish that looks aesthetically pleasing on a residential roof. - Long-term warranty cover
- Performance 7 panels carry a 30-year product and power warranty with registration. This beats most of the other panels in the UK market.
We explain the warranty and registration requirements that apply to the exact model in your quote.
Two formats
Performance 7: 460W or 515W?
The two Performance 7 formats have very similar efficiency. Their main difference is size.

- Rated output
- 460W

- 1,790 mm
- Width
- 1,134 mm
- Depth

Performance 7 515W

Choose the format that fits your roof
A smaller panel can sometimes make room for an extra one. That is why the complete layout matters more than the wattage of an individual panel. We check the available space, shading and installation clearances before recommending either format.
Pricing
How much do SunPower solar panels cost?
These indicative Performance 7 solar-only installation prices provide a starting point. Your final price depends on the property, system design and equipment selected.
- Approx. system size
- Indicative installed cost
- 3 kWp
- £4,500
- 4 kWp
- £5,500
- 5 kWp
- £6,000
- 6 kWp
- £6,500
kWp describes the panels’ combined rated power. These are approximate system sizes, not fixed panel packages. The exact capacity and panel count depend on the 460W or 515W format and your roof layout.
Prices include 0% VAT for qualifying residential solar panel installations under the current relief, which runs until 31 March 2027.
What affects the final price?
The main factors are the system size, roof type, scaffolding and access, cable routes and any electrical upgrades needed. Choosing M Class or adding battery storage also increases the cost.
A survey allows us to replace these rough estimates with a fixed price for your home.
Adding a battery
£1,300–£7,500
Battery storage typically adds £1,300–£7,500, depending on capacity and equipment. We can quote solar-only and solar-with-battery options so you can compare them.
The premium alternative
When is SunPower M Class worth considering?
Performance 7 is our preferred option for value. M Class 495W is the premium alternative for homeowners who place more weight on efficiency and longer warranty cover.
The 495W M Class has 24.3% efficiency and measures 1,800 × 1,134 mm. Its footprint is close to the smaller Performance 7, but its rated output is higher.
That can be useful when roof space is limited and you want more capacity from a similar panel layout.
The manufacturer also provides 40 years of product, power and service cover, with a lower warranted annual degradation rate than Performance 7.
Those are meaningful differences, but they come at a higher price. We will explain what the upgrade offers on your roof so you can decide whether the extra cost makes sense.

What does a solar panel warranty mean?
- Product warranty
- A product warranty covers specified defects in the panel.
- Power warranty
- A power warranty sets a minimum retained output over time.
- Service warranty
- A service warranty covers the practical costs of putting a covered panel fault right. For SunPower M Class, this includes removing the faulty panel, shipping and installing its replacement, subject to the applicable UK warranty terms.
Neither guarantees a particular annual generation figure or electricity bill saving. Your inverter and battery also have their own warranties, separate from the panels.
We will make those distinctions clear when you compare your options.
Design & installation
A complete system, designed around your home
Good panels are only part of a good installation. Roof orientation, shade, panel layout, inverter selection and the way you use electricity all affect the result.
Based in Plymouth, Simple Solar helps homeowners across Devon, Cornwall and Somerset choose a system with a clear specification and price.
Your property and electricity use
Our process starts with your property and electricity use. We then check the roof, assess installation access and recommend an appropriate layout.
Battery storage
If you want battery storage, we will explain how it could help you use more of your daytime generation. Monitoring features depend on the inverter and battery equipment selected.
Backup during a power cut
If backup during a power cut is important, tell us at the design stage. It requires a suitably configured system and is not an automatic feature of a combined solar panel and battery installation.
FAQs
Your SunPower questions, answered
Do SunPower panels work in cloudy weather?
Yes. Solar panels generate from daylight, including diffuse light on overcast days. Output changes with the weather, season, orientation and shading. Your generation estimate should reflect your particular roof.
Will bifacial panels produce extra power on my roof?
These panels can generate from light reaching their rear side, but the benefit depends on how they are mounted and how much light is reflected behind them. We do not assume the headline rear-side gains in the datasheet will apply to a conventional pitched roof.
Can I install solar without a battery?
Yes. A solar-only system can supply electricity while it is generating and export surplus to the grid. A battery adds storage for later use, but it is a separate choice. We can explain both options for your household.
What if I was looking for SunPower Maxeon panels?
Maxeon panels are no longer available from SunPower. For new Simple Solar installations, our current options are Performance 7 and M Class. If you have an older Maxeon quote, we can help you compare it with the panels now available.
Existing Maxeon panel warranties depend on the original model and warranty terms.
Can I see the datasheets and warranty documents?
Yes. Ask us for the documents for the exact panel in your quote. We will identify the model, dimensions, output and applicable warranty requirements so you can compare like for like.
How do Aiko panels compare to SunPower?
Although we don’t install Aiko panels, we do sometimes quote against them. To understand the differences between Aiko and SunPower panels, read our Aiko vs SunPower comparison guide.
