WHAT IS A HEAT
PUMP?

An air source heat pump is an electric heating system that takes heat from the outside air and uses it to warm your home and hot water. Perhaps you could imagine a fridge in reverse - moving heat rather than generating it by burning fuel.

IS YOUR HOME
SUITABLE?

Check your home for free.

Most homes can be a good fit, but suitability depends on a few practical factors:

Insulation
level
(loft/walls/windows) - better insulation = better performance
Outdoor
space
for the unit with good airflow
Indoor space
for a hot water cylinder (in many systems)
Noise &
placement
considerations (we help you choose the best spot)

If you’re unsure, don’t worry - we’ll assess it quickly and explain your options.

COSTS, SAVINGS & PAYBACK

Heat pump pricing depends on your property:

  • Property size
  • Insulation
  • What needs upgrading, such as radiators, cylinder, or controls

Typical installed costs are often between £3,000–£7,000 after the grant, and can sometimes be cheaper than replacing your boiler.

We’ll give you a clear quote that shows your estimated running costs, what you’ll pay upfront after any grant, and what changes, if any, your home needs for the best performance.

FAQS

Questions we’re often asked.

Is my home suitable for a heat pump?

Most homes can work well, especially if they’re well insulated. The key is getting the design right — we’ll assess insulation, heat loss, and outdoor unit placement and give you a clear recommendation.

How much does an air source heat pump cost?

It varies by home size and what upgrades are needed. Typical installed costs are often in the £3,000–£7,000 range before any support. We’ll provide a transparent quote after a survey.

What grants are available?

In England and Wales, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme can provide up to £7,500 off the cost of an eligible heat pump installation (eligibility applies).

Is VAT really 0%?

There’s 0% VAT on eligible energy-saving materials (including heat pumps) until 31 March 2027.

Do heat pumps work in cold weather?

Yes — they’re designed to work in UK conditions. The most important factor is proper system sizing and a home that retains heat well (insulation).

Do they need maintenance?

They’re relatively low maintenance, but like any heating system they benefit from periodic checks to keep performance high.
