FAQs
Quick answers, no fluff.
If you’re unsure about anything, we’ll check it on a free survey and tell you straight.
Is my house suitable for solar panels?
Most, but not all, properties are suitable. We offer free no-obligation surveys to assess your roof. We look at roof size, orientation, and shading, then give a quick estimate of savings and generation.
Will I own the panels on my roof?
Yes. Some companies used to lease panels and tie homeowners into long contracts. We don’t do that. We install quality panels, you pay a fair price, you own everything. No small print.
Doesn’t solar reduce the value of my property?
No. The opposite. A quality system installed properly can make your home more desirable because it reduces ongoing energy costs.
Isn’t solar unreliable and high maintenance?
Not when it’s installed correctly. Solar is low maintenance. If anything goes wrong, remote monitoring often spots issues before you do.
Is this one of those fake “government grant” schemes?
No. Those ads are usually lead-gen tactics. We keep it simple: clear pricing, clear savings, and a realistic payback estimate based on your home.
Does it take decades to start saving now?
No. While the Feed-in Tariff ended, the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) still pays for exported energy. Panel costs dropped and efficiency improved, so payback is commonly in the 4–7 year range for many homes.
How much do solar panels cost with Simple Solar?
It depends on system size. Typical installs often start around £4,000–£5,000 for a 2–3 bed home. We’ll quote for your roof and usage, and we can talk financing if needed.
What brand of solar panels do you use?
We use reputable, high-quality manufacturers chosen for performance and warranty. We’ll recommend the best fit for your roof and budget during the survey.
Do you offer battery storage?
Yes. Batteries store excess energy for evenings and cloudy days. We don’t push them if they don’t make sense for your budget and payback goals.
How long does an installation take?
Usually 1–3 days depending on system size and complexity. We’ll agree the schedule with you in advance.
Do you provide a full service?
Yes. Survey, design, scaffolding, electrical works, installation, testing, and commissioning. We handle the whole job end-to-end.
Will solar panels impact the strength of my roof?
We do a loading assessment on every job. Most roofs are fine. If strengthening is needed, we can do it safely and to regulations, supported by a structural report.
When will my scaffolding come down?
We aim for a couple of days after completion, though it can take up to a week depending on scheduling.
When do I get my MCS certificate?
Often within a few hours, sometimes up to 2 working days. You’ll need it to set up SEG with your energy supplier.
Do you offer in-roof systems?
Yes. They can cost a bit more, but many people prefer the flush look. Great if you’re re-roofing or building an extension, since the panels effectively replace part of the roof covering.
Do you use Tier 1 products?
“Tier 1” is often misunderstood. It refers more to manufacturer bankability than product quality. We choose equipment based on performance, warranty, and value for your specific project.
